They say a picture is worth a thousand words. So why is it that people still write so much unnecessary content? When it comes to conveying what we want our consumers to think and feel, images have power over text in this modern era, but not just as a compliment to content and messaging. Images also have benefits in your marketing material. Here’s why you should use the power of images in every content marketing piece you create.
Breaking Up Text. Our first benefit of imagery is to break up text. Studies show that people are visual learners and tend to avoid large blocks of text. When you break up text with an image, the brain views the content as being shorter than it really is, making people more likely to read what you have to say.
Believability. An interesting study showed that readers are more likely to believe a study on the brain when images of the brain were included. What does this mean? When you add images to your content it becomes more convincing.
Evoking Emotion. A lot of companies use imagery to make a consumer feel a certain way and take action. Say you’re looking to buy a car and your salesman is very monotone and not excited at all about the car he is showing you. You’ll probably end up passing on that car, right? Who wouldn’t? Imagery works the same way. The right imagery can act as an instrument of persuasion and push your audience to act.
Memorability. The final benefit we’ll hit on is memorability. Recall your favorite commercial from the Super Bowl. I bet you can see it in your mind right now. You probably don’t remember the lines from the actors, but you can probably see the funny moments and actors. That’s the power of imagery. The images you retained from it were memorable, so the right imagery you offer to your clients probably will be, too.
The next time you create a brochure, email, or marketing piece, be sure to include images, because let’s face it, we all want our content to convince and convert. And images are the tool you need to do just that. Need some new image-filled marketing materials? Give us a call. We’d love to help.
